‘Are We There Yet’ In The Digital World?
The digital world is more vibrant that it was a decade ago and the technological advances that the world has gone through may as well be the best thing that may have happened in the history of man’s existence. In less than 20 years, technology has been able to make the world a village and communication seamless among people. One of the reasons for this is the use of social media, with an estimated two thirds of people online using social media as by recent statistics on its usage worldwide. So, is this the world that our forefathers envisioned back in time and are we at the prime of all technological advances? Of course the answer is no. there are more tech being created as the day goes by and at some point in the future, this age will come to be known as the tech era, where man was able to do the impossible.
What next after tech inventions?
There are numerous inventions that are showcased worldwide in exhibitions and each one of this has the potential of changing a particular industry or market significantly. However, the real challenge has been adoption of this tech. We are living in the digital age but not so many people see technology as a necessity in their daily lives (at least in the developing countries). Yes, new inventions are being created as the day goes by but we are yet to see how they can be embraced in our lives. A good reference of this day in history can be the times of the famous inventor and painter Leonardo Da Vinci. He was obsessed with flying but hardly managed to do so however centuries later, the Wright brothers basing their studies on the same specimen ‘the bird’, were able to build the first planes in the sky. In as much as tech inventions are being built in the masses, only time will tell as to how they can be used in solving some of man’s problems.
Key to reaching an optimum level in the digital world is the manner in which tech is used to solve problems. Everyone is looking at convenience in this day and age and more people are willing to spend an extra buck in order to purchase some tech gear that seems helpful to them. The same can’t be said about classy/eye-pleasing tech. there are gadgets that are very nice to see and people wouldn’t mind having them. However, the fact that they are expensive and hardly solving a real problem makes them hard to be adapted by people en masse.
Currently, receiving wide attention from all tech circles is the Internet of Things (IoT) that is poised to revolutionize technology and enhance connectivity among devices. This to me offers the base for the future of tech, an IoT would make everything convenient and people will be able to attain levels of efficiency never witnessed in any century before. It does go to say that we are yet to see the full potential of what technology has to offer.
